Creating a multidisciplinary foundation for collaborative studies in Asia

In addition to the collection of medical data as a means of forming a basis for information studies that aim to amass and utilize practical information on cancer, it is equally important to seek to deepen knowledge from a multidisciplinary perspective on the various challenges facing today’s dynamic and fast-moving Asian society. We have worked to develop and implement Cross-boundary Cancer Studies as an educational program that perceives cancer from a multidisciplinary perspective and hold lectures that bring together the vast body of knowledge inherent in both the humanities and sciences at universities. Through the course “Surviving Cancer in Asia” that is part of the Japan-Asia Studies Program at the University of Tokyo, we aim to encourage the next generation of thinkers to look at the Asian region and consider the social challenges surrounding cancer in Asia, from multidisciplinary and global perspectives.
